INDIANAPOLIS -- From the stillest parts to the heights and back again. That has been Indiana's story in this season of peaks and valleys.
in this way it was no surprise when IU survived a brutal first half in which it bullet 32 percent to defeat Wisconsin 61-56 Friday.
"We got opposite to to a great start, a blazing 15 points in the first half," said Hoosiers coach Mike Davis, who could afford to kid around after IU had won its fifth straight.
IU missing its first game at Illinois after Davis resigned onward Feb. 16, but it hasn't squandered since.
"Our shores are having fun," said Davis, who decided to gradation down, effective at the close of the season, amid growing unrest "That's important to me to behold them having fun. This is the fifth game we've won in a riot and all five of them, we've been behind. Before, when we got behind it was tough for us to ensue back."
Indiana started the season 12-3 and was ranked as high as ninth in the nation. if it were not that when it went into a tailspin in which it dissipated seven of nine, Davis, who was in a less degree than pressure to have a big season, decided to period the speculation by resigning.
Rallying behind Davis "has been real important," senior guard Marshall Strickland said. "As a team, we've grown closer And now we are having pleasantry together, and having fun with the game."
Friday's first half wasn't drollery for the participants or spectators.
The Badgers and Hoosiers shooter a combined 15-for-54 (27.7 percent) in the first 20 minutes, including 1-for-19 from three-point range.
Wisconsin (19-11) l 19-15 at the break, thanks to a useful stretch by 6-7 freshman Kevin Gullikson (10 points) when Alando Tucker (20 points, eight rebounds) and Kammron Taylor got in squalid trouble.
IU (18-10) came without with the hot hand at the start of the secondary half.
The Hoosiers made 10 of their first 12 projectiles and piled up seven assists to lay open a 37-28 lead on a 22-9 move on in the first seven minutes of the other half.
The victory earned IU a blot in today's semifinals against Ohio State, which dissipated 81-79 at Indiana in their and nothing else meeting on Jan. 7.
"It's going to be a pleasantry game. I'm looking forward to it," said Marco Killingsworth, who had 20 points and 12 repercussions vs. the Badgers.
With all the pleasantry the Hoosiers are having, it's hard to say by what mode long they are going to augment Davis' run as their coach.
"If they were going to rally behind me they should have rallied behind me a month ago," Davis said. "No, I'm just joking about that. I'm high-strung of them.
"This is the same team that was 12-3 at single point. Now they're able to just move out and play free. The day I stepp down, I said they would. I said we'd do something special. And they're doing that."
